    Max lifts:Pec-dec-75 Leg extensions-95 Bicep curls-13kg dumbells 20 sets x 8 reps

    Today's workout: No plans really, bit of this, bit of that.

    Warm-up: Never had time but stretched hamstrings on bus (held stretch for 6-8 secs) and walked/jogged up-stairs to training centre. All benches busy so started on treadmill at 6.5 km/h. Totally f#cked after 3 mins. Think I f#"%¤ my achilles. Stopped and did some heavy pec dec work. Located free bench in front of mirror so bolted myself in for 20 sets X 8-12 reps w/13kg. Sat and stared at myself in mirror between sets.

    Post-workout feed: 330ml Diet coke and New Energy bar

    But oh no, he couldn't just keep it at that, he had to tell just one little lie too many....... :(

On the topic of lying, Oscar Wilde wrote "The liar at any rate recognizes that recreation, not instruction, is the aim of conversation, and is a far more civilised being than the blockhead who loudly expresses his disbelief in a story which is told simply for the amusement of the company". The only difference is, it seems like MS told lies for his own amusement, whilst people on MOL seek instruction.

    I'm sure most people on MOL doubted his great accomplishments, but it's difficult to accuse someone of lying without substance. Even if everything he wrote sounded far-fetched, it's hard to accuse when you've no proof and aren't actually there to see it (like the Chinese librarian).

    Education is harder to lie about. Even the title of his PhD, "Biomechanics and muscle adaptation" sounded vague. It's like a physicist taking a PhD in "Gravity and the stars".

    So although he was smart enough re. training articles, he wasn't a smart liar. Even when confronted with accusations, he used the classic response of the guilty person ie., "Why would I lie?" rather than denying the accusation with counter-evidence.

    Just hope, for his sake, he was doing this for a laugh.

  3. Janteloven handler om folk som virkelig er langt over gjennomsnitt, ikke folk som sier de er langt over gjennomsnitt.

    Hvis MS virkelig er og gjør hva han skriver, så ville jeg være virkelig imponert, og han ville være en inspirasjon til meg. Og ikke minst oppsiktsvekkende når det gjelder det jeg har laert og observert, nemlig at en er enten genetiske disponert til udholdenhet eller eksplosivitet. Så når han skriver at 1RM ved de tre styrkeløft er

    Bænkpres: 170 kg

    Squat : 240 kg

    Dødløft : 230 kg

    og samtidig at 10 minutter på tredmølle ved 16kmt er oppvarming (med kroppsvekt 90kg+), så er det en evne jeg har aldri opplevd eller hørt om før. Hverken vektene eller 16kmt i seg selv er oppsiktsvekene, men i samme person, det tviler jeg på. Som MS sier, kanskje jeg har vaert i en hule for lenge, men mens jeg var der, så har jeg jobbet på en lab hvor vi testet elite atleter (for a lage lactat profiler) på tredmølle som masters student (tok første utdannelse på idrettshøgskole i Skottland), og tok en doktorgrad innenfor fysiology (fra Uni i Oslo, ble ferdig 2000, Immune and endocrine responses to acute starvation). Jeg skriver det ikke for å imponere, men til å forklare hvor min skepsis stemmer fra (utdannelse og erfaring, ikke janteloven).

  4. Har sikkert vært i hulet alt for lenge. :( Men to enkelte spørsmål, og så skal jeg aldri plager deg eller lesere her på MOL igjen (med untakk for å be om unnskyldning om du svarer). På hvilken skole i Denver tok du doktorgraden og i hvilket år?

  5. 90kg og 183cm og fett<6% og "Opvarmning: 10 minutters let jogging - 16 km/t på løbebånd".

    Det har jeg lite tro på. Hvis det er sant, så er en 15 min 5k (20km/h) "a walk in the park". Og du må ha en VO2 max over 8 litres/min. Ellers er tredmølle feil. Beklager hvis jeg tar feil, men tror det her handler om drømmer, ikke virkeligheten.

  6. Er det noen som gan gi meg litt råd her?

    Litt forvirret, fordi ekspertene sier at barbell'n skulle gå opp og ned på samme linje, men samtidig advarer mot bruk av Smith maskinen på grunn av at det får kroppen til å bevege seg på en 'unnaturlig' plan.

    Hvis dere ser på gutten her, så er squatten stort sett rett opp og rett ned.

    Har prøvde box squats med Smith maskinen de siste dagene (med vanlig bench som box), og det føltes udmerket, men er bekymret at det kan forårskaer skader i framtiden.

  7. I followed (as best I could, but didn't get obsessive about counting calories) Beyond Brawn by McRobert for 2 years. Results.......... on a positive note, started at 74kg, now 83kg. I don't have much fat on body so most is muscle. Am proportionally much stronger with legs (100kg squats for 15 reps), than upper (60kg! kg for bench for 12 reps and chins 12 x bodyweight).

    I went along with all the advice regarding getting the whole body growing and the arms will grow aswell without much attention.....the result (at 183cm is 23-24 inch legs, and 13 inch twig-like arms! (chest 43-44, waist 31-32).

    On the whole though, I'm happy with results, but shoulders and arms look crap.

  8. Angående box squats, Dave Tate har skrevet "To begin the ascent, keep pushing out on the belt, arch the back as much as possible, and drive the head, chest, and shoulders to the rear. If you push with the legs first your buttocks will raise first, forcing the bar over the knees and causing stress to the lower back and knees, thus diminishing the power of the squat. You need to keep the barbell in a direct line with the heels throughout the entire movement and this can only be done by keeping your back arched."

    Betyr det (barbell in direct line with heels) at jeg kan gjøre denne øvelse med Smith Maskinen? Det ville væere perfekt for meg fordi jeg trener alene og er litt redd å trener uten medhjelper.
