On average, men have 61% more muscle mass than women (d=3), a sex difference which is developmentally related to their much higher levels of testosterone. Potential benefits of greater male muscle mass include increased mating opportunities, while potential costs include increased dietary requirements and decreased immune function. Using data on males aged 18–59 years from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and including other relevant variables, fat-free mass (FFM) and/or limb muscle volume (LMV) are significant predictors of the numbers of total and past-year self-reported sex partners, as well as age at first intercourse. On the cost side, FFM and LMV are strong positive predictors of daily energy intake and strong negative predictors of C-reactive protein and white blood cell count, measures of native immunity.

Uhada, ja man må hellere blive hjemme fra træning. :wink:

Dog kunne det interessant at se hvor meget betydning det lavere immunforsvar har på sygdomsrate og død.

Det er jo noget fis at stille det op sådan som BT. har gjort det!

Hvor mange sygedage har en forholdsvis veltrænet mand ved siden af en junk-ædende storryger?

Det er da noget fis at sige at en person der er mere veltrænet har dårligere imunforsvar. Som regel hænger den livsstil jo sammen med en fornuftig kost.

så vidt jeg husker ses C-reactive protein i forbindelse med inflammationstilstande i kroppen, så en negativ korrelation med muskelmasse favoriserer jo netop dem der er muskuløse ...

Så der er simpelthen bare tale om, at forskeren har misforstået sine egne resultater? Arhh, mon...

Jeg burde nok læse originalartiklen, men mig bekendt er der ingen fordel ved at have kronisk forhøjet C-reaktivt protein, tværtimod. Det har man typisk hvis man har metabolsk syndrom, noget man ivhertfald ikke får hvis man lever sundt.

Det er absolut ikke fordelagtigt at have kronisk forhøjet niveau af CRP:

"Recent research suggests that patients with elevated basal levels of CRP are at an increased risk of diabetes,[9][10] hypertension and cardiovascular disease."

"Some organs of the body show greater risk of cancer when they are chronically inflamed."

Ved akut inflamation stiger CRP op til 50.000 fold. produceres i fedt væv. kunne jo tænkes at de kroniske niveauer som ses ved trænede individer skyldes at cellerne bliver mere effektive til at producere CRP ved en given inflamation, og de kroniske niveauer derfor kan holdes lavere, hvilket det tyder på skulle være en GOD ting.

Jeg håber da ikke det medfører at folk stoppe med at træne pga. af denne fejlfortolkede forskning.
